A clearer way to settle a shared receipt

StingySplitter is a free web tool for turning a paper receipt into an understandable, itemized settlement. It was built for the familiar moment when a group meal is over but the receipt still needs to become a set of fair, exact payments.

What problem it solves

Equal splitting is fast but can feel unfair when orders differ. Manual itemized splitting is fairer but slow, especially when several people shared different dishes. StingySplitter combines a reviewable receipt scan with simple person-to-item assignments. The group can see the rule being applied instead of receiving an unexplained total.

How the math is designed

Individual items belong to their assigned people. Shared items are divided only among the people who shared them. Tax, tip, fees, and receipt-wide discounts are proportional to assigned item subtotals by default, with an even-split option for groups that prefer it. Calculations use integer cents, and leftover rounding pennies are assigned deterministically so the final person totals match the receipt.

The calculation remains editable. Receipt scanning is a convenience, not an authority: users can correct item names, quantities, unit prices, totals, and assignments before sharing the result. For a worked explanation, read the fair receipt splitting guide.

Accounts, sharing, and receipt photos

The core tool works without an account. Splits are saved in the current browser so an accidental refresh does not erase the session. Optional sign-in can sync saved splits across devices. A share link contains the split information needed by its recipients, but it does not include the original receipt photo.

When a receipt photo is scanned, it is sent to the server and an AI provider for extraction. The proposed lines return to the browser for review. The complete handling of local data, optional Firebase sync, advertising technologies, and deletion requests is described in the privacy and ads policy.

Advertising

StingySplitter is intended to remain free. Advertising may support the operating cost, but ads should not interrupt receipt entry, assignment, settlement, account, error, or other transactional screens. Google AdSense is configured and governed separately from the calculation itself, and the tool continues to work when no ad is served.
