StingySplitter
Privacy & ads
Last updated: July 28, 2026
The short version: your splits live in your own browser. Receipt photos are
sent to our server only to be read by AI, and we don't sell your data. Advertising may
support the cost of keeping the app free.
What we process, and where it lives
-
Receipt photos. When you scan a receipt, the photo is sent to our server
and passed to an AI provider (such as Anthropic Claude or Google Gemini) to extract the
line items. Photos are processed to answer that one request and are not kept on our
server afterwards.
-
Your splits. Items, names, and amounts are stored locally in your
browser (localStorage). Clearing your browser data removes them.
-
Optional account sync. If you sign in, your splits are also stored in
our database (Google Firebase) so they can follow you across devices. This is entirely
optional — the app works without an account.
-
Share links. When you share a split, the data needed to display it is
encoded in the link or stored so that recipients can open it. Only share links with
people you want to see the split.
Advertising (Google AdSense)
We use, or may use after site approval,
Google AdSense on pages with
publisher-authored content. We do not intentionally place ads on receipt entry, item
assignment, settlement, account, alert, error, or share-only screens. When AdSense is
active, Google may serve and measure ads as follows:
-
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies and similar technologies to serve
ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
-
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on
your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. You can read how Google
uses data from partner sites at
policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
-
You can opt out of personalized advertising at
Google Ads Settings or via
aboutads.info.
-
If you're in a region that requires it (for example the EEA, UK, or Switzerland),
you'll be asked for consent before personalized ads are shown.
Cookies & local storage
StingySplitter itself uses browser storage to keep your splits, settings, and (if you sign
in) your session on your device. When advertising is active, advertising cookies may be set
by Google as described above; we don't run our own analytics or tracking cookies.
Deleting your data
Local splits can be removed from the app's settings or by clearing your browser data. If
you signed in and want your synced data deleted, email us and we'll remove it.
