StingySplitter
Privacy & ads
Last updated: August 25, 2026
The short version: your structured splits live in your own browser. Receipt
photos are held only while you review and scan them, are sent to our server and AI provider
for that scan, and are not included in saved splits, cloud sync, or share links. We don't
sell your data. Advertising may support the cost of keeping the app free.
What we process, and where it lives
-
Receipt photos. When you scan a receipt, the photo is sent to our server
and passed to an AI provider (such as Anthropic Claude or Google Gemini) to extract the
line items. StingySplitter does not intentionally write the photo to server storage or
logs. The photo is held in application memory only for the active scan and is discarded
after the scan is completed, replaced, or cleared. The AI provider processes the image
under its own service and data-handling terms.
-
Your splits. Items, names, amounts, and assignments are stored locally in
your browser (localStorage). Receipt photos are not part of that saved record. Versions
released before August 25, 2026 could save a receipt photo inside a local split; the
current version automatically removes those legacy photo fields the next time the app
reads or writes the saved splits on that device. Because this storage stays on each
person's device and is not reported to us, we cannot inspect or count those local copies.
-
Optional account sync. If you sign in, the structured split is also stored
in our database (Google Firebase) so it can follow you across devices. Receipt photos are
removed before sync. Any legacy photo field encountered during sync is removed when that
session is next written. This is entirely optional — the app works without an account.
-
Share links. When you share a split, the structured data needed to display
it is encoded in the link. The receipt photo is not included. Only share links with people
you want to see the itemized split.
Advertising (Google AdSense)
We use, or may use after site approval,
Google AdSense on pages with
publisher-authored content. We do not intentionally place ads on receipt entry, item
assignment, settlement, account, alert, error, or share-only screens. When AdSense is
active, Google may serve and measure ads as follows:
-
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies and similar technologies to serve
ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
-
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on
your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. You can read how Google
uses data from partner sites at
policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
-
You can opt out of personalized advertising at
Google Ads Settings or via
aboutads.info.
-
If you're in a region that requires it (for example the EEA, UK, or Switzerland),
you'll be asked for consent before personalized ads are shown.
Cookies & local storage
StingySplitter itself uses browser storage to keep your splits, settings, and (if you sign
in) your session on your device. When advertising is active, advertising cookies may be set
by Google as described above; we don't run our own analytics or tracking cookies.
Deleting your data
Local splits can be removed from the app's settings or by clearing your browser data. The
August 25, 2026 update also automatically strips receipt photos saved locally by earlier
versions when that browser next opens the app. If you signed in and want your synced data
deleted, email us and we'll remove it.
